Dear viewers, Assalamu Alaikum, In this episode of Mayakon Bangla Channel, I will discuss Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor to the current interim government of Bangladesh.
He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for founding Grameen Bank and inspiring the concept of microcredit and microfinance.
He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal of the United States in 2009 and 2010.
He was a professor in the Department of Economics at Chittagong University.
Later, he served as the Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland from 2012 to 2018.
He is a founding board member of the Grameen Foundation and Grameen America.
He also served on the Board of Directors of the United Nations Foundation from 1998 to 2021.
On 5 August 2024, the Non-Cooperation Movement of students in Bangladesh forced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign. On 6 August, President Mohammad Shahabuddin dissolved the National Parliament. On the basis of the students' demands, Dr. Muhammad Yunus was nominated to serve as the head of the Interim Government of Bangladesh. He assumed office as the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on 8 August 2024. It is worth noting that he has experience in serving as an advisor to the Department of Primary and Mass Education, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Environment and Forests of the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh in 1996.
In 2024, his name was included in the list of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world.
He is also on the list of the top 50 influential personalities in the world.
