Pinaki Bhattacharya
A Bangladeshi expatriate living in France, Dr. Pinaki Bhattacharya is an online activist, writer and physician. He was born in Bogra district in 1967. His father, Shyamal Bhattacharya, was a respected school teacher.
Although he studied at Rajshahi Medical College, he is not currently involved in the medical profession. He is a guest lecturer at Bangladesh American International University Bangladesh. He is currently pursuing his PhD in France while seeking political asylum.
Known as a staunch critic of the Awami League government, this activist was in the news during the Safe Roads Movement in 2018 while hiding. He has written about 28 books on the political history of Bangladesh, the Liberation War and other topics.
He has over 3 million followers on YouTube and over 1.5 million followers on Facebook. He often writes and gives video talks on the history of Bangladesh, current politics, human rights issues and issues of neighboring countries.
During the 2018 student protests, military intelligence officers summoned Pinaki to their headquarters in Dhaka without giving any reason. Pinaki then went into hiding. Later, with the help of friends, he was able to leave the country and reached Bangkok in January 2019. He then reached France, where he is seeking political asylum.
Pinaki married his medical college classmate Anjuman Ara Begum, and they have a son named Rosef Anjuman Shuvo.
